Along with traveling (especially with the Band!), Sophia enjoys cooking & trying new food, listening to Salsa music, & belly laughing with friends and family. She is eager to join the Band's Board of Directors and support them in their ongoing mission, along with continuously learning more ways to incorporate disability justice & anti-ableism practices into her life.
BETHANY, MEMBER
Bethany is a self-assured and empathetic woman who experiences Down syndrome. She has been traveling with The Wayfaring Band since 2014, and fondly remembers the tasty beignets from our New Orleans Tour. When she’s with the band she enjoys seeing the sites and shopping, but more than anything she loves learning new vocabulary from our curriculum. Bethany was employed at SustainAbility for ten years until COVID hit, and she believes strongly in supporting efforts to take care of our planet. She stays busy with her involvement in Aspire Club, Higher Visions, Alternative Supports, and Adam’s Camp. Bethany loves animals, dancing, and says her anthem is “Fearless” by Olivia Holt.
ERIN, MEMBER
Erin is an adventurer at heart known for loud laughter, spontaneous dancing, and copious use of "y'all". Through fate, she shared office space with The Wayfaring Band in 2016 and began volunteering shortly thereafter. She also co-coached the Denver Sharks Special Olympic swim team before moving to Washington state in 2020. When not playing outside with her partner and dogs, reading a good book, or making a mess in the kitchen, she is working as a Compliance Officer for Stryker Emergency Care. Erin also leads diversity, equity, and belonging programming at work, sneaking The Wayfaring Band's ethos of radical inclusion into the corporate world.
Jareth, MEMBER
Jareth is an authentic and down-to-earth visual artist who experiences autism. He first joined The Wayfaring Band on the Big Bend Tour in 2019, where he described feeling a sense of peace he had never felt before. That experience has fueled Jareth’s dream to one day travel internationally. His artistic talent has been an asset to Access Gallery since 2012, where Jareth enjoys drawing, painting, and creating comics. Through the gift of his art, Jareth likes to portray underdog stories, expressed with a somewhat dark spin. He is interested in history and believes that without an understanding of the past, history is destined to repeat itself. Jareth hopes that his position on the Board of Directors will help create meaningful and powerful experiences through travel for others in his community.
