If you’re craving some ono grindz (delicious food) and love that low-key island lifestyle, this is the tour for you!

Get your kicks on Route 66! Nobody plans an old-school road trip like The Wayfaring Band: if vintage Americana is right up your alley, we’ve got a spring break adventure with your name on it. This March we’ll be serving up retro neon signs, roadside attractions, western movie sets, gas station coffee, exotic varieties of jerky, mom-n-pop motels, and more. From Denver we’ll cruise on down to the Texas Panhandle, where we’re sure to encounter some Wild West wonders in and around Amarillo. Palo Duro Canyon is the second largest canyon in the U.S., and we’ll appreciate this natural treasure from top to bottom. Then, there’s only one thing that can counter the splendor of Mother Nature: the kitsch and camp of Route 66! We’ll motor west into New Mexico, snapping photos of every odd outpost, cool diner, and strange Plaster-of-Paris statue we encounter. Next we’ll cruise the Turquoise Trail north into Santa Fe, where we’ll pause to visit Meow Wolf, the world-famous, immersive art installation / multimedia experience housed in a bowling alley owned by George R. R. Martin (true story!). Finally, we’ll stick to the backroads as we make our way back into colorful Colorado, visiting Great Sand Dunes National Park, a UFO watchtower, some relaxing hot springs, and even a wolf sanctuary before heading home. We won’t quit until we have white line fever, baby!

Drive time will be limited to 5 hours or less per day, but this trip is still best for travelers who enjoy long drives and can handle frequent transitions.

Ready to scratch a destination off your bucket list? Join the band on a legendary journey to Machu Picchu, one of the most iconic travel destinations in the world. Built high in the Andes Mountains at the height of the Inca Empire, Machu Picchu’s breathtaking vistas and singular architectural style have been dazzling visitors since the site first became known to outsiders just over a century ago. Our adventure begins in Lima, where we’ll enjoy a quick urban exploration and acclimate to the southern hemisphere… where our spring is their fall! Next, we’re off to Cusco, the ancestral capital of the Inca Empire. Together we’ll learn about this remarkable civilization: at its height, 40,000 Incas governed a territory with 10 million subjects that spoke over 30 different languages. It was the largest and richest empire ever seen in the Americas; in fact, during its height in the 15th and 16th centuries, it was the largest empire in the world. We’ll explore the complex and ultimately tragic history of the Inca, marvel at the beauty of the Sacred Valley, and experience the famed hospitality of the Quechua community of Huilloc, where residents balance practicing ancient customs with surviving in a modern world. If you’re eager to try new foods, make new friends, and delight in the colorful textiles and world-class art and architecture of Peru, join us for this unforgettable adventure.

Passport required. Please be aware that our initial connecting flight into Peru is a red-eye, so our first night of travel we’ll be sleeping on the plane. After a full day in Lima, we’ll fly to Cusco. From there, we will be taking the train (not hiking) into Machu Picchu. However, this trip is still best for travelers who enjoy easy to moderate hiking due to other activities on the itinerary. If you prefer to move at a slower pace or need help with hiking, that’s okay! We just want to make sure everyone who chooses this trip enjoys the challenge of mountain exploration and is healthy enough to stay safe at high altitudes (over 11,000 feet).

Earth Knack Stone Age Skills Camp, Crestone, CO

June 17-21, 2020 | 5 days / 4 nights

Cost: $2,400 all-inclusive originating in Denver. Scholarships available!

Leadership Fellow Cost: $1,600 all-inclusive originating in Denver. Scholarships available!

“The clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness.” John Muir knew that going to the mountains was going home: what better way to restore the integrity of our hearts and minds than by running away to the woods? This June we’re off to Earth Knack, a Stone Age skills camp based on the banks of Cottonwood Creek in Crestone, Colorado. The Wayfaring Band first visited the camp in the summer of 2013, and we loved it so much that it’s the only repeat destination we’ve offered in nearly eight years of programming! Earth Knack has been offering primitive skills courses, wilderness treks, and classes in sustainable modern life skills to people of all ages since 1990. Robin Blankenship, Earth Knack founder and former artist-in-residence with The Wayfaring Band, will provide the band with top-quality instruction in a variety of outdoor living skills, including making fire from friction, plant and animal fiber felting and weaving, edible and medicinal plant properties, ancestral weaponry, and more! We’ve got outings planned to The Great Sand Dunes National Park, a traditional Buddhist stupa on the side of a mountain, and a local pool and hot springs. Round out each fun-filled day with live music and stories around our evening campfires, and you’ve got an adventure to remember. Join us!

We will be camping outside in tents, using composting outdoor toilets, and showering infrequently. This trip is best for travelers who enjoy the outdoors and like to learn new things! A small, shallow creek separates the tent site from the cooking area. Travelers will need to cross a log bridge to get back and forth several times daily. Staff can provide support.

We’ll watch fish fly at the Pike Place Market, sip coffee at the world’s first Starbucks, get a 360-degree view of the city from the iconic Space Needle, and learn about the city’s musical history at the Museum of Pop Culture. And of course, it wouldn’t be a trip to Seattle without a ferry ride. Away we go!

Next we’ll visit Armstrong Redwoods State National Reserve, where we’ll marvel at the tallest living trees on the planet. Along our route we’ll explore many of Northern California’s charming towns, including Guerneville, Healdsburg, and Santa Rosa. Finally, we’ll rest our road-weary bodies in a time-honored fashion: feet up with a glass of wine! Members of Kendall’s family operate the Hafner Vineyard in Alexander Valley, and they’ll host us for a special tour of the vineyard, winery, and wine cave. Don’t worry… we won’t forget to taste the merchandise! If you’ve been California dreaming, this is the tour for you.
